As the Nation's
premier earth-science research agency, the GSP is responsible for
the study of the geology of the country in increasingly greater
details by undertaking research involving:
- geological
mapping and other geoscientific surveys
- exploration
and appraisal of mineral, energy and water resources
- geohazards
and environmental assessment.
The results
of the scientific pursuits and multi-disciplinary research of the
GSP are supplied in several forms such as reports, maps and digitized
databases providing descriptions and analyses of mineral, energy
and water resources; the land surface; the underlying geological
structure; and the dynamic processes of the earth. This in turn
leads to sustainable resource development; natural hazards monitoring
and predictions; environmental protection and conservation; public
safety, security and health; and balanced socio-economic growth.
