R & D Facilities

The GSP has adequate research & development facilities, competence and expertise in the fields of geological mapping; geophysical, geochemical and geotechnical surveys; mineral exploration & evaluation; groundwater and engineering/environmental geology investigations; drilling and logging; photogeology and photogrammetry; coal petrology; analysis of rocks & minerals; and computer aided geological cartography and geoscience data management.

With its state-of-the art equipment, the GSP's Geoscience laboratory (GeoLab) at Islamabad offers services in advance research and precision analysis using equipment such as election-probe microanalyser (EPMA), X-ray diffractrometer (XRD), X-ray fluorescence spectrometer (XRF), atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AAS) with hydride kit & graphite furnace, inductively coupled plasma spectrometer (ICP-AEC), differential thermal & thermogravimetric analyser (DTA/TG) and a wide array of other sophisticated testing, analytical and research equipment. Besides, it has advanced level research facilities for rock and paleomagnetic studies. Acquiring and productively using this high-tech equipment can rate the GeoLab rated as the best research facility of its kind in the South Asian region and the Third World.

The expertise and facilities of the GSP and the GeoLab are available for contractual work by both public and private sectors in and outside Pakistan.
