The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has released a significant update to its Pak-ID mobile application, aiming to make citizen registration and documentation processes faster and easier.
What’s New in Version 5.0.0
The latest version of the app introduces a redesigned dashboard, an improved search function, and a simplified procedure for cancelling identity cards. For the first time, all features now appear in both English and Urdu, a move expected to make the app more accessible to users in rural and semi-urban areas where English proficiency may be limited.
Another notable addition is real-time application tracking through the app’s inbox, eliminating the need to visit NADRA offices for updates. The update also enables online death registration, developed in collaboration with Union Councils in select districts.
Push for Greater Accessibility
NADRA’s digital push is being complemented by on-ground expansion in Karachi. Mayor Murtaza Wahab announced that NADRA service counters will soon be available across every union council in the city. The initiative was revealed during the opening of an upgraded registration facility at Babar Market, Landhi.
Wahab also disclosed plans for a new center at Kakri Ground in Lyari, while large-scale registration hubs are under construction in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulberg, and Surjani Town. These projects are part of a broader strategy to reduce overcrowding at existing centers and ensure quicker access to essential services.
Why It Matters
The updates signal NADRA’s shift toward a hybrid model—combining digital tools with expanded physical infrastructure. For citizens, this means fewer long queues at registration offices and more control over routine documentation needs directly from their smartphones.
