Karachi Beach Outing Turns Deadly as Two Young Men Drown

A weekend trip to Karachi’s popular Hawkesbay beach ended in tragedy on Saturday evening when two young men were swept away by powerful waves, police confirmed.

The victims were identified as Arsalan Imran, 17, and Shahab, 20, both residents of Nazimabad. Arsalan’s body was recovered shortly after the incident, while rescue teams continued searching for Shahab late into the night.

An 18-year-old companion, Hasnain, also caught in the strong currents, was rescued by lifeguards and is safe.

Incident Details

According to South DIG Syed Asad Raza, the three friends were enjoying a picnic near Hut N-40 along Manora Road when the tragedy struck around 5:30 p.m. Arsalan’s remains were later taken to Dr. Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi for legal and medical procedures.

Police said Shahab’s family has been informed, and search operations are expected to resume at dawn on Sunday.

A String of Recent Drownings

Rescue officials noted that this is not an isolated case. Since August 19, at least eight people have lost their lives to drowning at Hawkesbay Beach and the nearby Hub River. Authorities continue to warn visitors about unpredictable tides and the dangers of swimming in unguarded areas.
