QUETTA — A wave of violent incidents in Quetta, Khuzdar, and Kalat districts on Thursday left four people dead — including a Levies official and a tribal elder — and one person injured, officials confirmed.
Grenade Blast in Quetta Claims Bystander
The first incident took place in Killi Zareen, on Quetta’s outskirts, when two men on a motorcycle lobbed a grenade at an Eagle Squad patrol. The grenade missed the officers but struck two civilians passing through on another motorcycle.
One of them, identified as Ghulam Farooq, died on the spot from multiple injuries. The other was taken to Civil Hospital with serious wounds.
Levies Officer Targeted in Kalat
In Kalat district’s Johan area, unidentified gunmen on motorcycles opened fire on Levies official Bhlo Khan Lehri while he was heading home. He died instantly, and his body was handed over to relatives after medico-legal procedures.
Tribal Elder’s Body Recovered
Police in Kalat also found the body of tribal elder Khizar Hayat in the Askalko Gundan area. Investigators say he had been abducted from his home several days earlier by unidentified armed men. No group has so far claimed responsibility.
Unidentified Body Found Near Quetta
Separately, police recovered an unidentified body in Chashma Achozai, a semi-rural area near Quetta, and moved it to Civil Hospital for examination.
Grenade Thrown at Police Van Near University
Another grenade attack occurred near Balochistan University, where assailants hurled the device at a police vehicle. The grenade failed to explode, and bomb disposal experts defused it without incident.
Ongoing Security Concerns
The incidents underscore the persistent security challenges in Balochistan, where both law enforcement and civilians continue to face armed attacks. Authorities are investigating whether the events were connected.
