In a move driven by extreme weather conditions, Punjab’s government has decided to keep all public and private schools closed until August 31. The revised reopening date is now set for September 1.
The announcement came from Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat, who stated that the extension applies to all educational institutions—whether government-run or private—across both urban and rural parts of the province.
Unpredictable Weather Forces Change
This decision follows a period of unpredictable weather patterns in the region. After waves of monsoon rains, temperatures have spiked dramatically, leading to sweltering heat and stifling humidity. Officials say the resulting conditions have made school environments physically taxing for students and staff, with poor ventilation and high heat combining to disrupt both classroom learning and outdoor activities.
Education authorities emphasized that the move is aimed at protecting children’s health during a time when neither the infrastructure nor the environment supports safe or effective schooling.
Parents Urged to Stay Updated
Families and school administrators have been advised to monitor official channels for any further updates. While the summer break extension will delay the return to classes, the government aims to ensure that all districts begin the academic term on the same footing come September.
This coordinated approach is expected to minimize disruption and help schools resume with a more stable and safer learning environment.
